On October 14 my beloved mother, Katherine Schumann-Heink died holding my hand while listening to Brahm's lullaby.
Her favorite poem was "I wandered Lonely As A Cloud" by Wordsworth. http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/174790
I did this painting for her memorial as daffodils are not in season now so I couldn't get any live ones.  The house I painted for her for last Christmas.  It is where she lived with her mother when she went to high school and college. 745 N. Brighton, Burbank.  She loved it and would stare at it and tell me her memories of what happened while she lived there, the neighbors etc.  How her father showing a neighbor, Mr. Blanco his gun almost accidentally shot her mother who had just gotten up to go to the kitchen and the bullet went through the back of the chair.  Mr. Blanco ran out of the house.
Mom kept saying she couldn't understand how I got the house so perfectly as she remembered.  It was easy, it is still exactly the same and I just sat across the street and painted it.
She felt my dad's presence for the last 5 years of her life ( he died in 1994) She had a recurring dream of him and her mother on the other side of a river beckoning to her and she couldn't get to them no matter how hard she tried.  I think she made it on October 14, 2014.
We had a beautiful memorial for her on what would have been her 92nd birthday November 13 and Henry came home from Vienna to play piano, her favorites including Yellow Bird, Nearer My God to Thee and of course Brahm's lullaby.  That night Henry heard her  voice as he fell asleep say "Thank you for playing for me today"

Our Local Malibu Paper

October 22, 2014

Such a lovely article in the Malibu Surfside News
This has been a very difficult month, with the passing of my mother and then a fall down the stairs.
It was nice seeing this well written terrific article about me and my work.

Mission San Luis Rey in the Malibu Times

Now if I could just get a gallery that wanted to exhibit all of them.

This mission was painted at dusk as a service was going on and the music was gorgeous.
There is a park in front where I sat at a picnic table under a tree and painted as the sun set.

Today one of my Mission Paintings, The San Francisco Mission (Mission Delores) was published on the Los Angeles Times website.  Not my favorite of the paintings, we had to do it from the middle of the road but at least they put my website address in, carolyncarradine.com

September 2014

I had the opportunity to paint "Broadview" Sandy and Bill Mitchell's beautiful home in Malibu
It was great fun sitting in front of Don Henley's (The Eagles) house on his brick tree well in the shade on a very hot day to paint the first picture. There was a lovely breeze and it was delightful.  At one point Sandy came out to visit.

Maliblu 2014

I have meant to paint this view for years but just never got around to it.  Labor Day seemed perfect.  Staying home and not fighting the beach traffic on the last big rush to the sea for all the Valley people and those going back to school.  It was a beautiful weekend and perfect.  I sat in the grass on the hill across the canyon and no rattle snakes bothered me.  It was a lovely and very peaceful day.

I received an email asking for submissions for a Steinbeck Country exhibition.  Each piece of art needed to be accompanied by a Steinbeck quote.  I took "The Monterey Wharf" from my mission collection and painted the other two for submission.  Doing this project I realized how very happy I am when I am painting.

Caitlyn's 32nd birthday, wow how is that possible??

We went out to do our best in 2 hours to give Monet a run for his money fueled with Mateus  Rose ( who remembers that?  ...hint, the bottle becomes a candle stick after drained) and cheese, with acrylic paint.  I have to give B. Collins Studio on Pico a big shout out.  It was great fun and Beverly is the best.  We are waiting for her Halloween Bayou painting for another evening out.  "Like" her on Facebook, she is starting out and doing a wonderful job!!

Chris and I spent a glorious day driving to Morro Bay, had a great seafood lunch (well I had seafood and he had steak as usual) We painted the rock from the pier and then drove home.

As an experiment with black canvas I did two small (8"X10") paintings copied from a couple friend's © photos

"The Farmer has left the Barn"
This photo was taken the morning after my friend's father, a lifelong farmer had passed away.
This was a wonderful photo taken in Africa by another friend.  I love giraffes and found this photograph magical
